I could not agree more. Growing up in an immigrant household, my parents instilled that if we worked hard and were busy and productive, we would be rewarded by life...but now I am burned out.
My immigrant parents instilled the same work ethic in me, and while I am grateful, those were/are not the rules of the game 😭 and it’s difficult to snap out of it before heading toward burnout! But I’m learning. One way or another.
Came here to say this! "The pressure to be extraordinary is just another way to keep us from enjoying the ordinary lives we already have." WHEW. Like. Straight to the core. 🫶
oof! I had to re-read this line 3 times back to myself: "The pressure to be extraordinary is just another way to keep us from enjoying the ordinary lives we already have." this is SO true and such a great reminder. thank you for this!! 🩷
Thanks for writing this, max. I’ve been feeling so caught up in achievement lately, frustrated with myself, and this helped me reconnect with my emotions.
Gosh, this hit hard in a profound way today! I am in an "unlearning" journey right now of everything you describe, and your characterization of how we are programmed psychologically is very enlightening!
“Productivity = worth” is such a hard cycle to break (ask me how I know), and I am so proud of you for writing this! It’s the reminder we need. 🫶

Glad this resonated and definitely something I am in the middle of unlearning too!
Another great share, keep up the good work my friend. I think you should consider compiling a lot of your great writing into a book!
